Chambers, Here’s How to Use Twitter to Create Awareness and Build Relationships

Chamber Pros Insider Tip #113

Happy Tuesday.

People have been asking us about our future plans (and where our travels have taken us).

We put up this map yesterday to share where we have been and where we are going.

Nothing about the future is set in stone because we like to keep our plans loose, but it does look like we will spend the winter in sunny southern Florida.

On to today’s tip

Do you have a Twitter account?

Are you wanting to use it to grow your chamber?

Here are some tips for you.

The first tip is to follow all of your members and prospects Twitter accounts.

They will get a notification that you followed them and they will probably follow you back, assuming you have set up your profile with a good photo, bio, and seeded the account with quality tweets.

As you follow your members and prospects, add them to a Twitter list that you create.

Here is mine for the chamber industry:

By adding them to a list, you gain several advantages…

The first being, you get to see just the tweets of these very important people. The raw Twitter stream can be a fire hose of little value.

Your list stream is all valuable because these are your peeps.

From the list stream you can engage with them or retweet their tweets, a very generous thing to do. Favorite tweets from time to time if they aren’t retweetable or worth commenting on.

Second thing is you can see their Klout score (if you have installed the extension on your Chrome browser).

Those with very high Klout scores can be made into major word-of-mouth champions for you. Put extra effort on engaging those with high Klout scores.

Here is how to set up your member and prospect Twitter list.

On your profile page, click More then Lists.

That will bring up the opportunity to view your current lists or create a new one.

You probably want to set it as public so your members can use your list.

The list url is sharable. For example https://twitter.com/FrankKenny/lists/chamber-professionals.

The list has 45 subscribers or followers.

Wouldn’t it be great to have your members engaging other members?

This makes it easy. Let them subscribe or follow your list. Tell them about your list from time to time.

After your list is set up, visit it regularly (on your mobile if you like) and engage with your members and prospects.

Today’s Insider Tip: Twitter can help you create awareness and build relationships. By creating specific lists of your members and prospects, you can more fully focus on those most important to your business. Engage with your list daily by replying, retweeting, and favoriting.

Share the URL with your other members and team so they can engage too.

See the discussion on this in the Chamber Pros Group on Facebook.

Thanks,

P.S. So close…
