Chamber Pros Insider Tip #57
One of the strategies I am going to share in a presentation today for the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Executives (VACCE) is to use social media to tell the whole community’s story, not just the chambers or the members.
It used to be that all the benefits of a chamber were reserved for members.
Membership has its privileges, or benefits, it has been said.
And that’s true. Members do deserve certain exclusive privileges and benefits. But not all privileges and benefits should be members-only.
By providing some services and benefits, especially ones that don’t cost anything extra to deliver, you bring people into the top of your funnel. That is where the “Know” of know, like, and trust starts.
Check out this video that the Saratoga County chamber created.

This chamber video has been played more than 75,000 times. It doesn’t just show the members.
It showcases the whole community. It is inclusive. It is powerful.
It tells a great story.
Today’s Insider TIP: While your biggest benefits and privileges should be reserved only for members, it is best to have a culture at your chamber that is inclusive of the entire community. Give Gifts. Be Generous.
When you list businesses on your website, list them all. When you send emails about community events, send it to everybody. This is the best way to introduce yourself to future members. Include them in things that don’t require an expenditure on your part, like sending an extra email or liking a Facebook Page.
Let all the businesses know, if you like these free things, like being included in our community video, just wait till you get our paid benefits!
Do you have a culture of serving the entire community, or just the members? See the discussion on this Tip in the Facebook group.
