A member of the Chamber of Commerce Professionals Group on Facebook asked:
Does anyone use a magazine/flip a page type of e-newsletter? We’re seeing them in other organizations and are wondering if it’s a good idea to freshen things up a bit by using something like this.
Many chambers are using this type of interactive style of publishing for their newsletters, annual reports, and/or visitor publications. Using a flip-page style is professional looking, inexpensive, and best of all makes a cool sound when you “flip” the page.
Flip-page Style Chamber Newsletters
There are many companies that offer this service/software. Several chamber professionals suggested:
issuu an “archive, library, and newsstand” in one. Their online publication system offers in-document search and social site integration. They have three monthly payment plans including a free option.
UniFlip The Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce produces their monthly newsletter/magazine with this app. It’s easy to navigate and impressive. UniFlip even offers conversion services to convert print materials to electronic format.
Flip Page Publishing. The Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce uses this product which allows for click counts on URLs, easy navigation from the TOC directly to pages, video capabilities (perfect for advertisers wanting to stand out), and much more.
While these tools all produce really amazing online publications, several chamber professionals pointed out that their communities were slow in adopting this “new” technology. The publications seem user friendly and easy to navigate but switching over to this sort of interactive publication may require a bit of patience on your end. Mastering zoom features and flipping pages online are complicated to some people.
Still the professionalism and image-laden looks of these online magazines is the direction in which publications are going. While your members may not be ready to embrace this technology, visitor’s and those looking to relocate probably are.
