Facebook is a necessity in business social media these days. Frankly, I hate that it is. There’s a lot of junk on that site but people love it. And if your members love it (which we know they do), being active on there is a must. So I thought I’d share some Facebook numbers to help you make the most of your content.
Facebook Numbers: What You Need to Know
Facebook has 2 billion monthly active users at the time of this writing (July 2017). Note that these are active users who log in at least once a month. Stop saying your members aren’t on there.
1.18 billion are active daily desktop users while 1.57 billion are active daily mobile users.
The user base is almost even between men and women, with women users being slightly higher. (53% women to 47% men.)
Each day Facebook users watch 100 million hours of video (on Facebook) collectively. Are they watching yours?
According to Buzzsumo, the most effective number in Facebook headlines is 10, followed by 5, 15, 7 and 20. So start writing those Top 10 Reasons to Be a Chamber Member articles.
48% of Facebook users ages 18-34 check Facebook as soon as they wake up each morning.
41.2% of referral traffic (in the Parse.ly network of digital content publishers) came from Facebook and this stat is from 2016. That’s why we always advise posting on social media as links back to your website. If you leave that digital content breadcrumb path back to your site, people will follow.
Organic reach on Facebook fell by 52% in 2016. While it’s still possible to engage your chamber members and prospects, it’s likely you’ll need to add some pay/ad strategies to gain their attention.
According to Facebook, in 2016 1 billion people used Facebook groups. Does your chamber need one? Perhaps.
