If you’re looking to recruit more women in business, or you just want to do something special for the women in your chamber, a women-focused event is a great idea.
But what activity appeals to a wide variety of women for chamber membership and involvement without propagating stereotypes? These chamber professionals have a few ideas:
Ideas for Women-Focused Chamber Events
While many chambers offer women-focused events, most allow interested men to attend too. They just ensure that the men are aware that the programming will be focused around women. Before marketing your event, you’ll need to decide whether you merely want to appeal to a particular demographic (and allow men) or be exclusionary.
Health and Fitness Event
Renee Sinclair had an idea to focus on heath/fitness and work/life balance. Her suggestion mentioned incorporating health clubs and diet and nutrition groups as vendors, sponsors, and/or speakers. Speakers could address concerns like time management and managing a family and work. The event could culminate in a fashion show of workout clothes.
Ladies Night Out
Sharon Clark from the Markham Board of Trade in Ontario shared a concept she’s still working on, “I’ve been putting some thought into a charitable activity/event that women could do together, along with a learning/knowledge sharing component. Not sure what that would look like just yet, but some initial ideas are park cleaning or putting together care packages for a women’s shelter, etc.”
“Also, I was thinking about having the women develop a business plan for a not-for-profit through a brainstorm session where all them would share their input in break-out groups and then pull the info together as a final product. The learning component could be to have facilitators leading each of the groups on various topics (i.e. financial, marketing, etc.).”
